Correct about my dad, the Piper was (and still is) my uncle. Robert Prescott was in the house beside the road to the church and my main memory of them is the potato delivery van crashing through the fence and depositing several pounds of best King Edwards across the front lawn. The Stanleys – Michael and Terry. Terry, it was who played for Brighton & Hove Albion. Such a claim to fame!.

Hi all.

What a slow day at work, and a great day for nostalgia.
Gordon, Alex, Roger our Cricket and Football matches in Selham Close were very competitive. I remember a Bag Piper at the top of your garden Gordon.
I also remember your Dad, he was a Manager of a Typewriter shop.
Do you remeber Dave Prescott and the others in the close. I used to nip through the twitten to play football in the close. Roger lived next door to me and we used to play together sometimes, he had an older brother. My Mum and Dad Vi and Ron have now passed away, but I have relatives nearby in Rushlake Road still (The Stanleys). In 1963 my brother and Dad built an igloo in the garden…what snow that year. Mum worked at Downsview and also at Vatrley Halls of residence.

Hi Im Liesa and lived in Wolseley road our neighbours are The Elphicks sadly Ron Died a year or so ago but hiw wife Madge still lives there, they had sons Peter and John and daughter Eileen
could these be part of the Elphicks that you mentioned? we moved next door to them in 1962 i think… (124)

I was a pupil at Coldean School I left in the 3rd year to move to Croydon around 1960 the name Mr Elphick rings a bell with me but not much more my name was Patricia Humphrey and we used to live in Wolsley Road.

I am organising a reunion for anyone who left Coldean School in the 1970′s, or thereabouts, on Saturday 2nd July. The reunion will be held at the school with a tour of the school at 6.45 followed by the reunion at 7.30.

Ah nostalgia! Though it’s not what it used to be. Yes, I remember most of you (yes, even you, mother). Peter and David, where would my cricketing prowess be without you. Indeed, where is my cricketing prowess? If anyone finds it, you’ve got the e-mail address. Christine, I’m sorry but, without the photo, I may have been totally unaware that there were girls at Coldean (with the possible exception of “take your knives, take your forks and cut it” – what was the point of that, by the way?) Alex, the games of snooker we had at your house, with Roger lie large in my memory. Especially the shots we had to take with the short cue or through the window due to the table being not much smaller that the room. Just think, if only we’d kept it up we could have been dope smoking, alcoholics by now (allegedly). Love to hear from you all (even the ones I don’t remember)

Having just had a few beers with my brother Alex, I have come upon this e-mail chain. We lived in Nanson Road and I am truly pleased that Pete Robinson rmembers me from 45+ years ago. I well remember him and Wayne McKenna whoi is now very senior in a University in NSW, Australia. Peter worked for the Argus I think before going to London, and maybe could have been the next “Whispering Bob Harris”. (Peter – I was lucky enough to play cricket with Richard Williams who started Old Grey Whistle Test before Bob.)

I have spent the last 40 years in London and am coming towards retirement.

I am so pleased thar Peter Robinson has written and remembers us. But I was extremely sad to hear about his mum. she was a very nice lady and a friendly neighbour. I expect Peter remembers the Jakeman family, we are still in touch with them so I will be letting Suzanne know all about the contact with Peter. goordon will be thrilled too as Peter and Dave used to lift him over the fence and let him play cricket with them (he was only three) they wouldn’t lift him now I bet!! I remember Gordon very well. I lived with my family at 26 Hawkhurst, almost directly behind the Heritage family. I left Coldean in 1972, although my sister Gill continued to live there for several more years. She has been living in Patcham for 30 odd years, after a brief period in the US.
I now live in East Preston near Worthing – I returned to Sussex 6 years ago after working and living in London for 30 years. I run my own independent record company specialising in soul and R&B music.
I have very fond memories of Coldean, of Coldean Primary and of Westlain. I am still a good friend of Dave Thomson, who attended both those schools with me, and who lived in Ashburnham Drive. My best friends on Coldean when very young, apart from Dave, were Wayne McKenna and Michael Isted.
My mum (who passed away earlier this year) worked in the newsagents for a few years when it was run by the Hobday family. My other sister Janet went to Stanmer and now lives in Cheltenham.
