FRIENDS OF COLDEAN PARKS

The friends is a group that meets every two to three weeks on Tuesday afternoons between 2pm & 4pm at New Larchwood Cafe. The group consists of  people who enjoy talking about the local history and personal reminiscences.

The group is self funding and often visits places of interest, like the old police cells,and the Brighton Museum, and has also taken part in the W.V.R.S. funded craft workshops.

We have plans for future events, and welcome new members

INTERVIEW WITH PAT AND ROB.

This month I have been speaking to Rob and Pat Berry who have been members of the TRA since 2005. Pat has lived in Coldean since she was 4½ and Rob moved here in1976.

 

What made you want to get involved with the residents association?  

Pat: Initially I was asked by Sue Harris to become involved. Rob was always around during meetings at the house and became involved that way.

Rob: We felt we wanted to give something back to the community.

 

What are your main functions as part of the committee? 

Pat: My main role as vice chair is to support Sue. I am involved in organising the Coldean festival and any new projects that the Residents Association are getting involved in. Among other things, this coming year will see us revisiting the environmental project to see what has changed since the last questionnaire.

Rob: As secretary, I send letters out, take minutes, design posters, help publish the newsletter and run the website.

 

How do you think we could get more residents involved in the Residents Association?

We would like to encourage more people to come along to the meetings. They are more than welcome to just sit and listen and don’t have to participate in everything. We would love it if people just gave any time they could.

 

And finally, if you could say one thing to the Residents of Coldean what would it be?

Do something and be proud of where you live.

COLDEAN COLTS

The Coldean Colts is a football group run by Philip and his wife for the young children in Coldean. Philip and a strong band of volunteers have encouraged the younger youth of Coldean to take part in the outdoor activity of football, they have several teams playing on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Coldean School playing fields.
