Wild Life

A Day Out At Amberley Heritage Museum

Remember the Southdown Buses!

Even older, note the starting handle no power steering in those days.

No synchromesh gearbox, double declutch to change gears what’s he talking about! only us oldies know what that means.

Southdowns’ old Storrington garage.

Old time-table.

She will be waiting a long time for the bus, there’s only one a day!

Robey a horizontal pumping steam engine.

Messerschmitt KR200 bubble car, top speed around 56mph. 191cc  fichtel & Sachs 2 stroke engine built around 1958 – 87 mpg.

The Bond Bug 700cc Reliant 4 cylinder 4 stroke engine, built 1970-1974 cost £629 and capable of 78 mph.

Isetta bubble car single front opening door with a steering wheel that folded out on the door, two cylinder 2 stroke motorcycle engine, top speed 47mph. built around 1953.

there was a version of this car without reverse gear that you could drive on a motorcycle licence, I remember once parking too close to the car in front and with a front opening door and no reverse gear unable to get out, waving frantically to passers-by to push me back!

Morgan Three wheeler, V twin  motorcycle engine made by US company S & S capable of 115 mph.

A nostalgic look back in time at Amberley Museum to the days when motoring was cheap and petrol was only 29.25 old pence per gallon. work that out in today’s money!

So get those cameras out and take some pictures. Send them into me at rd.berry@virginmedia.com  and you can see your pictures on our website.
